Mark Lester, M.D.
Dr. Mark Lester joined Annapolis Pediatrics in August 2008. His education began at the Bronx High School of Science in New York City and continued at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. He attended medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, where he accepted the prestigious National Health Service Corp Scholarship Award. Dr. Lester completed his residency in pediatrics at Columbia University Childrens’ Hospital of New York. When he finished residency he returned to an inner city neighborhood where he grew up, the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, to practice.
While a general pediatrician at a community health center in Brooklyn, Dr. Lester continued to work in the Pediatric Emergency Room at Children’s Hospital of New York. He has a passion for providing emergent care to the acutely ill child and he loves providing continuity of care in the primary care setting. He is certified in PALS (pediatric advanced life support), ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) and BLS (basic life support).
Dr. Lester also feels strongly about combating some of the most critical problems in American pediatrics today: pediatric obesity and youth violence. He is passionate about the reduction of domestic and youth violence, and is committed to promoting violence prevention strategies and risk reduction behaviors among adolescents.
Though not completely fluent, Dr. Lester also speaks Spanish and is looking forward to improving this skill.
Dr. Lester and his wife, a dentist, have two young sons. In his spare time Dr. Lester loves to spend time with his family and, now that he has come to the Annapolis area, he plans to enjoy golf and fishing, which he has always been interested in doing. He vows to continue his support of the New York Giants and “the best baseball team ever” the New York Yankees. |
