Girls P.L.A.Y. Day at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center

Girls P.L.A.Y. Day at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center

-

On Friday, April 5th AACPS have a 2-hour early dismissal with most after-school programs canceled. From 12pm to 5pm, Annapolis Recreation and Parks (ARPD) will be hosting a "Girls P.L.A.Y. Initiative'' sports program inviting all girls between the ages of 6 and 14 to come out to the "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center in Annapolis, MD and be themselves. The acronym P.L.A.Y. stands for Positive, Leadership, Ambition and Be YOU.

This initiative works to expand opportunities for girls in sports and ensure that young women have equal access to recreational offerings in their communities. Through programming, special events, and camps ARPD focuses on providing opportunities for girls to create life-long healthy physical activity habits.

Nearly 67% percent of the women surveyed in the Always ‘Like a Girl’ Study said that they felt society doesn’t encourage girls to play sports. However, girls who play sports not only feel more confident but are more likely to show improvements in physical and mental health, academic achievement, and self-esteem. Through sports, girls learn important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and confidence. (Reference: Chicago Parks District)

Come join local community partners, local sport organizations and schools for a fun Girls PLAY day!

We look to providing sport instruction for many sports including: volleyball, pickleball, basketball, gymnastic, soccer, lacrosse, rockwall climbing and more!

It's a FREE program for girls age 6 - 14 on Friday, April 5th between 12 and 5 pm.

And Annapolis Pediatrics will be there with a table, games, giveaways and resources!
